Z-Wave on 2GIG Edge — Compatible Devices, Verified by Model

The 2GIG Edge panel includes a Z-Wave 700 radio for enrolling compatible smart-home devices. That is powerful — and easy to oversell. Home Shield will not claim every Z-Wave gadget works. We verify locks, lighting controls, thermostats, and other devices against what Edge and Alarm.com actually support for your job.

What it is

A local radio mesh for compatible automation devices

Z-Wave devices communicate wirelessly with the security panel to provide status and control that Alarm.com can present remotely when your interactive plan includes them. Edge’s Z-Wave 700 generation is the radio HomeShield relies on for new primary residential installs.

Mesh behavior, device certification, and feature support vary. A lock that pairs physically may not expose every automation action you saw in a retail video. We set expectations from the device’s supported feature set.

Benefits

Why Z-Wave still matters on Edge

Panel-local enrollment

Devices pair to Edge rather than depending only on consumer clouds.

Alarm.com remote control

Compatible devices surface in the app with your security.

Strong category coverage

Locks, lights, thermostats, garage, and more — when models qualify.

Security-first design

Automation remains secondary to intrusion protection in our advice.

700-series radio

Edge ships with Z-Wave 700 per product KB — modern device class support.

Verify-by-model discipline

We refuse universal compatibility claims.

Compatibility rules we live by

Bring the model number

Before promising a device, we check that it is appropriate for Edge / Alarm.com and that the features you care about (status, scenes, lock user management, etc.) are supported. Older Z-Wave generations and obscure SKUs may pair poorly or lack features.

Some useful devices are not Z-Wave at all — they use partner cloud integrations. Those are separate conversations and still require verification.

Not a blank check

“Z-Wave logo on the box” ≠ guaranteed HomeShield support.

FAQ

Common questions

Does Edge have Z-Wave 700?

Yes — 2GIG Edge includes Z-Wave 700 per our product documentation for the primary HomeShield panel.

Will every Z-Wave device work?

No. Compatibility and feature support are model-specific. We verify before promising.

Is Z-Wave the same as Alarm.com?

Z-Wave is the local radio. Alarm.com is the interactive platform that can control compatible enrolled devices remotely.

Can I move devices from an old controller?

Sometimes, with exclusion/inclusion steps. Mixed meshes from prior DIY projects need a careful cleanup.
