New HomeShield installs

Z-Wave · 2GIG Edge
The 2GIG Edge panel includes a Z-Wave 700 radio for enrolling compatible smart-home devices. That is powerful — and easy to oversell. Home Shield will not claim every Z-Wave gadget works. We verify locks, lighting controls, thermostats, and other devices against what Edge and Alarm.com actually support for your job.
What it is
Z-Wave devices communicate wirelessly with the security panel to provide status and control that Alarm.com can present remotely when your interactive plan includes them. Edge’s Z-Wave 700 generation is the radio HomeShield relies on for new primary residential installs.
Mesh behavior, device certification, and feature support vary. A lock that pairs physically may not expose every automation action you saw in a retail video. We set expectations from the device’s supported feature set.

Compatibility rules we live by
Before promising a device, we check that it is appropriate for Edge / Alarm.com and that the features you care about (status, scenes, lock user management, etc.) are supported. Older Z-Wave generations and obscure SKUs may pair poorly or lack features.
Some useful devices are not Z-Wave at all — they use partner cloud integrations. Those are separate conversations and still require verification.
