Interior motion · HomeShield
Motion detectors watch rooms and hallways after someone is already inside. On a HomeShield 2GIG Edge system we place them where they catch real movement — and we talk honestly about pets, HVAC drafts, and arming modes before we pick a model.
What it is
Contacts catch openings. Motion catches movement in volume — living rooms, hallways, stair landings, and finished basements. Most homes use motion as a second layer, not a replacement for door sensors.
Programming matters as much as hardware. Stay vs Away modes, entry/exit paths, and pet considerations all shape where motion belongs.
Who it’s for
Great rooms and long sightlines where one well-placed detector covers more than several contacts.
Families that need motion strategies that respect dogs and cats — discussed up front, not after false alarms.
Spaces that are easy to forget until someone asks about coverage downstairs.
Benefits
Helps detect activity even if a perimeter point was missed or forced.
One motion can cover more area than lining every interior doorway with contacts.
Motion zones report to the panel and can alert through Alarm.com when your plan supports it.
We place detectors with how you walk through the house when armed in Stay mode.
eSeries motion is preferred for new Edge work; alternatives only when verified.
Serving Ohio since 2009 means someone nearby can help if a zone needs tuning.
Equipment notes
We prefer eSeries motion detectors for new 2GIG Edge installs. Extended-range options exist for difficult RF paths on current Edge firmware — those are Edge-specific conversations, not a blanket claim.
Public pages do not list every SKU. During the quote we confirm the model for your panel, talk about pet weight guidance for the chosen detector, and avoid promising immunity that the datasheet does not support.
Natural choke points that catch crossing traffic.
Often improves room coverage when furniture and stairs allow.
We note pet doors, space heaters, and sunny glass before finalizing.

FAQ
It depends on the detector model, mounting height, and pet size. We select and place motion with your pets in mind and explain tradeoffs during the quote.
Usually yes. Motion is a strong interior layer; contacts remain the foundation for knowing which opening moved.
Poor placement near vents, curtains, or direct sun can. Professional placement and programming reduce that risk.
Compatibility is model- and firmware-specific. We verify rather than assume.
